No KICKmas Cheer for Hamilton by Billy MURRAY

Gary Hamilton lost his bid to become a two-time world kickboxing champion at the KICKmas 2013 at the Ulster HAll in Belfast last night, December 14. The Full-Contact specialist Hamilton, faced WKN (World Kickboxing Network) supremo Daniel Zhara of Malta over 5×3 under K1 style rules.

This was Gary Hamilton’s first fight at the Ulster hall since 2005 and one he was hoping would have put him back on the world scene. At times Hamilton showed the class that once seen him win and defend world crowns. As the fight went on the champion Zhara was too experienced in this style of fighting with the Belfast Boy being floored twice and stopped in his tracks in the 4th round with devastating knee strikes.

Gary will have a bit of time off to enjoy Christmas. Said Murray his coach. “ then we will look and see where we go from here, one thing for sure, if he want to continue it will need to be only on the Full-Contact kickboxing stage, not the Thai style this is clearing not Gary’s style of fighting.”

It was bitter sweet for the ProKick team as Ursula Agnew lifted another version of a world title and now becomes a two-time amateur world champion. Two new European champion for Northern Ireland and both winning inside the distance Samantha Robb. He opponent Emilia Czerwinska (Poland) retired on her stool end of the 3rd round. And the second European title was Belfast’s Alex Cioici stopped Brandon Spiteri (Malta) in the 3rd round with the referre calling a halt to the fight.

Bangor man Johnny smith also be the Super welterweight International champion with a 2nd Round TKO over Nunzio Zambataro (Belgium)
Disappointment for east Belfast triple European champion Karl McBlain as his bid to lift the WKN Amateur Welterweight world title end with a draw
with the Champion Burmester retains title.
